The bachelor's thesis is the culmination of the program. The students develop, enhance, and demonstrate their methodological abilities to independently tackle and solve a given research problem. The thesis furnishes the students with their first major research experience, and is a further development of the work done in the basis courses and the focused study.
Discovering Management offers an introduction to the field of business management and entrepreneurship for engineers and natural scientists. By taking this course, students will enhance their understanding of management principles and the tasks that entrepreneurs and managers deal with. The course consists of theory and practice sessions, presented by a set of area specialists at D-MTEC.
This course is geared towards first and second-year doctoral candidates of MTEC. It is held as in a workshop style. Students attending this seminar will benefit from interdisciplinary discussions and insights into current and future work in business and economics research.
Methods for data acquisition in organizational contexts are covered, especially surveys, interviews, and behavioral observation. Methods for quantitative and qualitativa data analysis are presented and practiced. Basics of study design are discussed in view of requirements of internal and external validity.

Design of work processes and individual jobs strongly affect individual and comapny performance and therefore are crucial for effective human resource management. Meaning of work, management of uncertainty, and organizational change are also discussed. Methods are introduced and applied in business settings supporting job and work system design.
The basic processes of human resource management are discussed (selection, reward systems, performance evaluation, career development) and embedded in the broader context of leadership in teams. Leadership concepts and group processes are presented. Practical instruments supporting leadership functions are introduced and applied in business settings.
This intensive 4-day block course explores the future of work by discussing the interplay between human talent and AI. We will cover and move beyond foundational theories of talent management to address the strategic challenges and opportunities that arise when intelligent systems become integral members of the workforce.
Students write a term paper based on a literature review in an HRM-related topic of their choice (e.g., employee selection, performance management, leadership, group dynamics).
