Abstract

Technology should provide best support to their users and their abilities and needs. But practice reveals that the use of machines and computer software often leads to difficulties, errors and accidents. You should learn to design compatible to the users and their tasks, i.e. to design ergonomically. Therefore the lecture offers methods, design projects (medicine, air traffic) and exercises.

Objective

Know how to apply systems analysis and ergonomic design principles for conception and optimisation of various human-machine systems.

Content

Definition of ergonomics, work system model, anthropometrics, human information processing, design principles, software ergonomics, environmental factors (light, noise, climate, pollutions), problems of automation, systems analysis, task- and work flow analysis, project management, system’s user participation.

Resources

Lecture Notes

Regular attendants will receive a script (39 pages including figures). Additionally pages (for example the training exercises) will complete this.

Literature

Script is sufficient and contains references of literature.
