Abstract

Basics of ergonomic design of complex human-machine systems and the core requirements for participatory system design are presented. The effects of automation are discussed in view of changing human work and the danger of loss of control over complex systems. The method KOMPASS is introduced as support for deciding on human-machine function allocation in sociotechnical systems.
