Abstract
Design of work processes and individual jobs strongly affect individual and comapny performance and therefore are crucial for effective human resource management. Meaning of work, management of uncertainty, and organizational change are also discussed. Methods are introduced and applied in business settings supporting job and work system design.

- Linking human resource management to strategic management - Understanding work process and job design as core functions fo HRM - Embedding work process design in organizational management of uncertainty - Understanding effects of assumptions about human nature in work design - Knowing effects of work design on competence development and motivation - Knowing and applying methods for analysing and designing work - Knowing models of collaborative planning within and between organizations - Understanding work process design as embedded in organizational change - Integrating "fit task to human" and "fit human to task"
