Practical in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Biochemisches-molekularbiologisches Praktikum
Experimental methods for the purification, analysis and characterization of proteins and nucleic acids. Work on small research projects.
Biochemistry I
Biochemie I
The course deals with structural and functional details of individual cell components and their mode of interaction. Compartmentalization of biochemical processes, signaling and regulation, and detoxification are analyzed in functional and structural terms.
Biochemistry III
Biochemie III
This course comprises a series of seminar lectures followed by round-table discussions. Its goal is to give the students the possibility of confronting themselves with recent developments in the biochemical research and with the critical reading of original literature.

The course can be taken alone or in combination with the spring course “A Problem Based Approach to Cellular Biochemistry”. During this seminar style course, students will explore research topics in cellular biochemistry focused on the structure, function and regulation of selected cell components. In the best case, student efforts can be aligned with an ongoing or future research project.

Experimental Biology I
Experimentelle Biologie I
Laboratory course with advanced experiments in the plant sciences, biochemistry, and structural biology.
Fundamentals of Biology I
Grundlagen der Biologie I
This 1st year Laboratory course introduces the student to the entire range of classical and modern molecular biosciences. During this course (Praktikum GL BioI) the students will do three praktikum days in:- Biochemistry- Cell Biology I- Microbiology- Plant Anantomy & Ecology(total of 12 experiments)Each experiment takes one full day.
The course provides an overview of several interdisciplinary and quantitative approaches to the study of biological problems, including transient spectroscopic techniques, biosensors and advanced light microscopy techniques. A brief tutorial on MatLab is followed by numerical analyses and modelling examples of biological problems.
Analysis of the principles underlying signal transduction at the conceptual and molecular level, including development and solution of simple quantitative models with MatLab.
