Agro-Food Projects
Praxisprojekte Agro-Food
This seminar addresses current research on nutrient cycles in agro-ecosystems. The upcoming theme is “Balanced and efficient nutrient management in soil-crop systems: Insights from long-term field experiments and beyond”.
Current Aspects of Nutrient Cycles in Agro-Ecosystems
Düngerseminar
The course treats current questions, problems and research related to nutrient cycles in agro-ecosystems. It is composed by experts contributions on themes related to substance fluxes, soil quality and food security in relation to plant nutrition and the recycling of nutrients with organic fertilizers.
Introduction to Scientific Methods Part II: Scientific Writing
Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten Teil II: Wissenschaftliches Schreiben

The course teaches knowledge and experimental techniques to study and evaluate pools and processes underlying nutrient fluxes in soil-plant systems. Theory and methods concern i) nitrogen dynamics in soil, ii) the use efficiency by crops of nitrogen added with fertilizers, iii) the fate of fertilizer nitrogen not taken up by the crop and iv) symbiotic N2 fixation by legumes.

Plant Nutrition I
Pflanzenernährung I
This course examines how plants acquire, transport, and assimilate nutrients, and how these processes influence crop yield and quality. Students understand the roles of soil, mineral, and organic fertilizers as nutrient sources. Building on this knowledge, the course concludes with the core principles of crops and grasslands fertilization.
The aim of this course is to present processes controlling the uptake and transport of nutrients by the plant, the assimilation of nutrients in the plant, the effect of nutrients on crop yield and quality, and the role of the soil as a source of nutrients for crops.
Plant Nutrition II - Integrated Nutrient Management
Pflanzenernährung II - Integriertes Nährstoffmanagement
Teaching on nutrient fluxes in agroecosystems so as to maximize nutrient use efficiency by crops and minimize losses to the environment while providing optimal nutrient supply to crops. Methods to establish nutrient budgets are presented. Nutrient input and output variables (e.g. losses by various pathways) are treated and their optimal management presented.
