This course aims to give a general introduction on the most important approaches concerning the estimates of pressure and temperature conditions in metamorphic terrains. In particular, pressure-temperature grids, conventional geothermobarometers and metamorphic phase diagrams (pseudosections) are introduced and used to reconstruct the pressure-temperature evolution for case study samples.
Dynamic Earth I
Dynamische Erde I
Provides a basic introduction into Earth Sciences, emphasizing different rock-types and the geological rock-cycle, as well as introduction into geophysics, plate tectonics and planetology.
During this field trip students will investigate: i) tectono-metamorphic processes controling the dynamics of high-grade migmatitic terrains; ii) magmatic processes characterizing a trans-lithospheric magmatic system formed in arc-setting, from the lower to the upper crust; iii) 500 Ma geodynamic evolution of the Gondwana and Laurentia continents.
Geological Field Course III: Piora
Geologischer Feldkurs III: Kristallin
The course takes place in the Piora area (N Tessin) from the 27/06 till the 05/07. Using modern methods, students will draw a geologic map and acquire structural geological and petrological data to understand tectono-metamorphic processes in the Alps.
This course is run as block course on Tu 10th of June (8:15-12;00, NO F39), Th 12th of June (whole day, field work in Sargans) and Fr 13th of June (8:15-12:00 + 13:15-15:00, NO F39). The course gives an introduction to digital mapping in geosciences from data collection to the final map construction, focusing on the application of different digital mapping tools to produce a geological map.
