Abstract
Students will work in the Malenco and Ivrea zones where the mantle-crust boundary and a complete cross section of the crust is exposed. Using modern methods, students will draw a geologic map and profiles so that a translithospheric magmatic system and high grade metamorphic processes in the crust can be understood.
Objective
Students learn how to draw a geologic map and geologic profiles using modern digital methods, how to take representative rock samples, and, how the combination of geologic mapping and profiles leads to a 3D-understanding of the processes that shape the continental crust.

Geologic mapping - Digital mapping; Sampling; Processes at the mantle-crust boundary; Magmatic processes in a translithospheric magmatic system, high-grade metamorphism and migmatization.
