Geological Field Course III: Piora
Geologischer Feldkurs III: Kristallin
Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:14:22
Abstract
The course takes place in the Piora area (N Tessin) from the 27/06 till the 05/07. Using modern methods, students will draw a geologic map and acquire structural geological and petrological data to understand tectono-metamorphic processes in the Alps.
Objective
Students learn how to draw a geologic map and geologic profiles using modern digital methods, how to interpret structural geology data, how to take representative rock samples, and, how the combination of geologic mapping and profiles leads to the understanding of the processes that shape the continental crust.
Content
Digital geological mapping, sampling, alpine tectonics, metamorphic processes.
Resources
Lecture Notes
Handouts and an introduction to digital mapping will be given before the course.
