Bachelor Thesis
Bachelor-Arbeit
The bachelor's thesis is the culmination of the program. The students develop, enhance, and demonstrate their methodological abilities to independently tackle and solve a given research problem. The thesis furnishes the students with their first major research experience, and is a further development of the work done in the basis courses, and usually, the focused study.

Introduction to fundamentals of biochemistry, metabolism (principles of energy and mass transfer, biocatalysis and enyzmes, respiration), protein synthesis, regulation), cell biology (structure and functions of cells, tranport processes throug cell membranes, growth and replication of cells), molecular genetics, and tools of bio-engineering.
The course covers the fundamentals of biotechnological products and implementing a microbial cultivation into reactors on laboratory and industrial scale. It also covers major methods of product purification.
An introduction to biology for engineers: basic biochemistry, cell metabolism (principles of energy and mass transfer in cellular systems), cell biology (structure and composition of cells, transport processes across cell membranes, growth and reproduction of cells), cellular and molecular biophysics, quantitative tools used in bio- and biomedical engineering
Bioprocess Enginering for Engineers
Bioverfahrenstechnik für Ingenieurinnen und Ingenieure
Introduction into the field of bioprocess engineering, in particular in enzyme and microbial fermentation technology
This course covers the role of enzymes in biotechnology, from discovery via engineering to applications in a variety of fields from food to the pharmaceutical industry.
Survey of the field of bioprocess engineering, in particular in enzyme and microbial fermentation technology
Experiments: General microbiological practice, enzyme technology, fermentation, downstream processing
This seminar will feature invited lectures about recent advances and developments in systems biology, including topics from biology, bioengineering, and computational biology.
Laboratory Practice
Labor-Praktika
Selected laboratory experiments in physics, mechanical and process engineering. With the Laboratory Training held during the fifth semester, the students learn how to handle and apply measurement methods and devices. Students are offered a diversified choice of laboratory experiments at least eleven of which must be completed. Five of the chosen experiments must be in physics.
Practical training at pilot facilities for fundamental processing steps, typical laboratory and pilot facility experiments.
