In-depth understanding of concepts, insight into current research and experience with methods of Forest Pathology based on selected pathosystems.

Capstone course in which students solve complex real-world land-use problems, for which no single correct solution exists. Students work in project teams and take the role of consultants. They integrate the knowledge acquired during their previous studies and deepen their analysis, problem-solving and writing skills.

Interdisciplinary seminar on forest and landscape issues with particular emphasis on the key processes shaping the development of forest ecosystems and landscapes. Students perform literature researches, and train presentation and moderation techniques as well as a constructive feedback culture.

Trees are important elements and drivers of ecosystem processes in forests and landscapes. Tree species diversity and intraspecific genetic diversity are relevant factors for continuous adaptation, required for a sustainable maintenance of forest products and services. Sustainable forest and landscape management under climate change has to take forest genetic resources into consideration.

The course treats the biology, morphology, ecology and systematics of selected species groups of woody plants from a world-wide perspective.

Diseases and abiotic damage influence the use and maintenance of forest ecosystems, tree populations and individual trees. This course provides a basic overview of important infectious diseases and abiotic damage in woody plants, with a focus on Central Europe.
