Abstract
The course treats the biology, morphology, ecology and systematics of selected species groups of woody plants from a world-wide perspective.
Objective
- Presentation of current research in dendrology using selected topics in this field. - To demonstrate interfaces with other disciplines, in particular forest conservation, nature conservation, forest genetics, forest ecology and silviculture. - To convey methods of dendrology and extend knowledge of tree species.
Content
Diversity in woody plants and its evolution, differentiation of problematic taxa, conservation of tree species, regeneration, phenology, floral and dispersal biology. Methods of dendrology. Morphology, biology and biogeography of selected species groups (Taxodiaceae, Abies, Rosaceae, Quercus, Eucalyptus, Acacia, Salix, monocotylous woody plants, invasive neophytic trees and shrubs).
