This course will consider genetic, cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying some of the most common human diseases. Areas of focus include developmental mechanisms of disease, the molecular biology and physiology of tissue repair and the metabolic basis of diseases. The course combines practical work with lectures, discussions, project preparations and presentations.
The course is a literature seminar or "journal club". Each Friday a student, or a member of the Suter Lab in the Institute of Molecular Health Sciences, will present a paper from the recent literature.

Fundamentals of Biology II
Grundlagen der Biologie II
This introductory Laboratory course introduces the student to the entire range of classical and modern molecular biosciences. In the second year (Praktikum GL Bio II) the students will perform three praktikum days in:- Bioinformatics- Plant Physiology- Genetics and- Cell Biology II.(total of 12 experiments)Each experiment takes one full day.
In the first part basic principles and methods that are widely used in molecular genetics are discussed. The second part presents aspects of gene cloning, whole genomes, transgenic organisms, recombinant protein production. The third part of the Course deals with Antibody Engineering, Chemical Modification of Proteins, Measurement of affinity constants, Proteomics
Practical in Neuroscience I
