Abstract

The course is a literature seminar or "journal club". Each Friday a stufent, or a member of the Suter/Sommer/Relvas groups in the Institute of Cell Biology, will present a paper from the recent literature.

Objective

The idea is to help all of us keep up with the literature, and to develop our skills in critically reading scientific publications, and to to give us practice in public speaking and presentation (to a friendly audience).

Content

In your own presentation you should give an introduction to the field of the paper, then show and comment on the main results (all the papers are available online, so you can show original figures with a beamer--you can use Powerpoint or a page layout program such as InDesign). Finish with a summary of the main points and a discussion of their significance. Most of us are especially interested in development of the nervous system, so the presentations will be heavily weighted in this direction.
