An introduction of working principals and design of air-breathing engines as well as rocket propulsion are presented. Key elements of the propulsion system as well as the design choices for the engineering of various components are examined. This course will be offered for the last time in the Autumn Semester 2026
Bachelor Thesis
Bachelor-Arbeit
The bachelor's thesis is the culmination of the program. The students develop, enhance, and demonstrate their methodological abilities to independently tackle and solve a given research problem. The thesis furnishes the students with their first major research experience, and is a further development of the work done in the basis courses, and usually, the focused study.
Convective Heat Transfer
Convective Heat Transport
The objective of this new course is to introduce the students to the field ofheat transfer by convection. This heat transport process is intimately tiedto fluid dynamics, meaning that a solid background in this field is necessary.Convection has direct implications in various industries, ranging from microelectronicscooling to thermal shields protection for space-shuttle at re-entry.

Fundamentals of thermal sciences, linked to energy conversion
Introductory first course for the specialization in ENERGY. The course provides an overall view of the energy field and pertinent global problems, reviews some of the thermodynamic basics in energy conversion, and presents the state-of-the-art technology for power generation and fuel processing.
Designing gas turbines means to translate the aerodynamic and thermodynamic intentions into a system, which is both mechanically sound and manufacturable at reasonable cost. This lecture is aimed at giving a comprehensive overview of the mechanical and design requirements, which must be fulfilled by a safe and reliable machine. Material and life prediction methods will be addressed as well.
Laboratory Practice
Labor-Praktika
Selected laboratory experiments in physics, mechanical and process engineering. With the Laboratory Training held during the fifth semester, the students learn how to handle and apply measurement methods and devices. Students are offered a diversified choice of laboratory experiments at least eleven of which must be completed. Five of the chosen experiments must be in physics.

Detailed Plans and execution.- Survival through cash flow management.- Human issues in new enterprise- Alignment of interests between providers of value and providers of capital- Transition of enterprises along growth path
In this course students will learn about the physical fundamentals and the main applications of plasma, the fourth state of matter. The course will give first an overview of what a plasma is, and where it can be found in nature. Then, the course will cover the fundamentals of plasma physics that will be used and extended during the main part of the course.

The objective of this new course is to introduce the students to the basic technology, performance, and design rationale of rocket propulsion. This subject is introduced through a discussion of the basic principles, a description of some of the physical mechanisms, and review of their principle applications.
Teamproject
Teamprojekt
Three students work on a scientifically relevant engineering problem and summarize the findings in a common research report.
Thermo- and Fluid Dynamics
Thermo- und Fluiddynamik
Current advanced research activities in the areas of thermo- and fluid dynamics are presented and discussed, mostly by external speakers.
Introduction to the fundamentals of chemical thermodynamics and thermodynamics of mixtures.
