This lecture covers the theoretical and conceptual foundations of quantum dynamics in molecular systems. Particular attention is taken to derive and compare quantum and classical approximations which can be used to simulate the dynamics of molecular systems and the reaction rate constant used in chemical kinetics.
Capstone project
Schlussprojekt
Acquisition of independent scientific-technical skills; project management; organization and undertaking of experiments; interpretation, scientifically and technically correct project presentation in oral and written form.
Materials Synthesis II
Materialsynthese II
The course teaches the fundamentals and concepts of coordination chemistry and introduces the various preparative methods for ceramic powders. Crystal field and molecular orbital theory, the concept of hard and soft acids and bases, and inorganic structural chemistry form further focal points. Cross-topic project works completes the course.
Physical Chemistry II: Chemical Reaction Kinetics
Physikalische Chemie II: Chemische Reaktionskinetik
Introduction to Chemical Reaction Kinetics. Fundamental concepts: rate laws, elementary reactions and composite reactions, molecularity, reaction order. Experimental methods in reaction kinetics. Simple chemical reaction rate theories. Reaction mechanisms and complex kinetic systems, chain reactions. Homogeneous catalysis and enzyme kinetics.
Projects and Lab Courses III
Projekte und Praktika III
A project lasting one semester, with special requirements regarding choice of materials, properties, etc., concluding project presentation event.Experiments to teach experimental competence using selected examples from polymer chemistry, analytics and physics (e.g. for the storage or conversion of energy), partly closely based on courses.
Projects and Lab Courses IV
Projekte und Praktika IV
On the one hand, P2-IV consists of an elaborate semester project, that is presented at a project presentation event at the end of the semester. On the other hand, there are short chemistry projects in parallel, which are among others closely coordinated with Materials Synthesis II, and physics experiments on e.g. metal physics and solid state physics. One is related to PSI (incl. visit).
Projects and Lab Courses II
Projekte und Praktika II
Practical introduction to the foundations of scientific work, materials science, physics and chemistry in the form of practical experiments and a longer, constructive project, partly closely related to the lectures. Analytical, constructive, chemical and physical methods are tested, project work is practised and safe working in the laboratory and workshop is practiced.
Projects and Lab Courses I
Projekte und Praktika I
Practical introduction to the basics of the scientific method, materials science, physics and chemistry in the form of laboratory experiments and projects, some of which are closely related to the lectures in the first year. Important chemical and physical methods are tested, project work is practiced and the basics of working safely in the laboratory are learned.
