Objective

Foundations of advanced experimental methods of reaction kinetics (with time resolved optical, UV-VIS, IR, EPR and NMR spectroscopy). Kinetic studies of primary processes in simple and complex systems on time scales of attoseconds, femtoseconds ... up to seconds. Theory of chemical reactions.

Content

Survey of advanced experimental techniques for the study of chemical reactions (time resolved optical spectroscopies, time resolved EPR, NMR, molecular beam methods, non time resolved spectroscopic techniques). Advanced applications to simple and complex molecular systems and to biological problems. Advanced applications of generalized first order kinetics. Pauli equation. Master equation treatments of inter- and intramolecular energy transfer, polymerisation reactions, laser chemistry. Advanced treatments of diffusion and diffusion controlled reactions in solution. Photochemical reactions and photochemical primary processes. Quantum dynamics of molecules as primary process of chemical reactions, tunnelling, quantum scattering, mode selective chemistry and coherent control. Generalized transition state theory of chemical reactions, statistical adiabatic channel model, variational transition state theory.
