Discussion of challenging cases (beam sensitive material, high spatial resolution, peak interference, quantitative element mapping, etc.). Operation of the Electron Probe Microanalyzer (EPMA). Understanding the fundamentals of the Electron Probe Microanalysis. Interpretation of X-ray spectra for elemental analysis.

The course takes place in the Piora area (N Tessin) from the 27/06 till the 05/07. Using modern methods, students will draw a geologic map and acquire structural geological and petrological data to understand tectono-metamorphic processes in the Alps.

Provides a practical, field-based introduction to the Geology of the Alps

Physical properties of minerals, e.g. electrical properties, elasticitcal properties are discussed.The effect of the crystal symmetry on the symmetry of physical properties as well as the mathematical formulation of the physical properties are major topics.
