The students are introduced to the fundamentals and physics of microelectronic devices as well as to microsystems in general (MEMS). They will be able to apply this knowledge for system research and development and to assess and apply principles, concepts and methods from a broad range of technical and scientific disciplines for innovative products.
This class introduces both theoretical and practical aspects related to the modeling and simulation of multiphysics systems. Students will learn how to set up multiphysics models systematically, and therefore reduce time-consuming trial-and-error. Comsol Multiphyics will be utilized to apply the concepts learned during the lectures to solve exercises.
The course addresses the physical principles of modern semiconductor devices and the foundations of their modeling and numerical simulation. Necessary basic knowledge on quantum-mechanics, semiconductor physics and device physics is provided. Computer simulations of the most important devices and of interesting physical effects supplement the lectures.
