Introduction into the cellular and molecular basis of the immune system and immune responses against diverse pathogens, tumors, transplants, and self (autoimmunity)

The aim of lecture is to understand:> how immune system recognizes different pathogens and how it successfully selects appropriate defense stratgey> why defense mechanism against microorganism often yields into symptoms of disease (fever, inflammation, autoimmunity)> how the cells of the immune system migrate into different tissues> immune system in intestine and anti tumor response

The course builds on the Fundamentals in Biology courses that are taught during the first three semesters. Students will be introduced into molecular disease mechanisms with a focus on the immune system and its role in health and disease and on cancer biology.
