Abstract

This block course teaches a wide selection of practical immunological techniques and offers advanced lectures in selected topics in immunology.

Objective

The aim of this block course is the acquaintance with a wide spectrum of immunological techniques involving practical experimental work following analysis and interpretation of the experimental data. Along the practical work, advanced lectures in selected topics in immunology, based on the knowledge from the immunology concept course, will be offered. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to read, interpret and present current papers followed scientific discussions.

Content

Practical work: cell culture, isolation of hematopoietic stemm cells and differentiation to macrophages and dendritic cells, activatin and cytokine production by macrophages and dendritic cells, 51Cr release assay, VSV neutralisation assay, flow cytometry, proliferation experiments, SEREX, intracellular cytokine staining, immune histology and fluorescence microscopy, MACS, cytokine bioassays, phagozytosis, proteosomal prozessing Advanced lectures: Immune responses to pathogens, Vaccination and B cells, Tolerance & Autoimmunity, Antigen processing & presentation, Pattern recognition, NK cells, Generation of (TCR) tg or ko mice, Antigen screening and definition
