Introduction into selected topics of biomedical engineering as well as their relationship with physics and physiology. The focus is on learning the basic vocabulary of biomedical engineering and getting familiar with concepts that govern common medical instruments and the most important organs from an engineering point of view.
Biomedical Engineering A
Biomedizinische Technik A
Medical imaging techniques for the diagnosis of anatomical and functional pathologies.
Biomedical Engineering II
Biomedizinische Technik II
Introduction into selected topics of biomedical engineering as well as their relationship with physics and physiology
The school (1.9. - 12.9.2008) will discuss the recent progress and challenges in biological and medical imaging. Cutting edge techniques using a wide range of imaging mechanisms will be put in the context of selected biomedical problems. In particular, multimodal and multiscale imaging methods as well as supporting technologies such as computer aided image analysis and modeling will be discussed.
Medical Physics
Medizinische Physik
In agreement with the lecturers a semester paper in the context of the topics discussed in the lectures can be written.
Concept: What is molecular imaging.Discussion/comparison of the various imaging modalities used in molecular imaging.Design of target specific probes: specificity, delivery, amplification strategies.Biomedical Applications.
Pharmacology and Toxicology II
Pharmakologie und Toxikologie II
The two-semester lecture course will provide a basic understanding of mechanisms of drug action, pharmacological properties and therapeutic uses of important classes of drugs. The lectures are intended for students of pharmacy and health sciences.
