Climate history and paleoclimatology explores how the major features of the earth's climate system have varied in the past, and the driving forces and feedbacks for these changes. The major topics include the earth's CO2 concentration and mean temperature, the size and stability of ice sheets and sea level, the amount and distribution of precipitation, and the ocean heat transport.
Geological Field Course II: Sedimentary Rocks
Geologischer Feldkurs II: Sedimente
Mapping of sedimentary rocks and stratigraphic units with the final production of a geological map at 1:10.000 scale. Writing a report illustrating the main facies and characters of the units, the Quaternary surficial deposits and the tectonic structures affecting the sedimentary rocks.

Mineral Resources
Rohstoffe der Erde
Overview of the geological formation and global distribution of mineral resources (metals, energy resources, bulk materials and industrial minerals), their economic importance, as well as the political and environmental aspects of responsible resource extraction and site rehabilitation.
Sedimentological field Course II
Sedimentologie Feldpraktikum II
The sedimentological field course II is complementary to field course I. It is taught each second year. The course provides insight into field analysis of sedimentary rocks. The field days offer the opportunity to take high-resolution stratigraphic sections.
Sedimentological field course
Sedimentologie Feldpraktikum
The sedimentological field course offers annually changing topics in field sedimentology. Students of last Bachelor year and Master students are welcome. The changing topics offer the opportunity that course can be taken more than once.
Sedimentology and Stratigraphy
Sedimentologie und Stratigraphie
Introduction of a range of concepts in sedimentology, Earth's surface processes and sedimentary geology in terms of processes and products. Familiarize students with a range of erosional, transportational and depositional processes and environments. The typical facies of the main depositional environments will be introduced.
The course will focus on biological amd chemical aspects of sedimentation in marine environments. Marine sedimentation will be traced from coast to deep-sea. The use of stable isotopes palaeoceanography will be discussed. Neritic, hemipelagic and pelagic sediments will be used as proxies for environmental change during times of major perturbations of climate and oceanography.
