Abstract

Introduction of a range of concepts in sedimentology, Earth's surface processes and sedimentary geology in terms of processes and products. Familiarize students with a range of erosional, transportational and depositional processes and environments. The typical facies of the main depositional environments will be introduced.

Objective

The students are able to - describe the formation of sediments and reconstruct the sedimentary depositional environment and its environmental conditions. - be able to apply different methods of correlation and temporal classification.

Content

Teil I: Sedimente und Sedimenttransport - Verwitterung - Sedimenttransport und Sedimentstrukturen - Klastische Sedimente - Karbonate und der Kohlenstoffkreislauf - Evaporite, Gezeitenablagerungen und Dolomite - Kieselige Sedimente - Diagenese Teil II: Sedimentäre Ablagerungsräume - Flüsse - Seen - Wind - Gletscher und Eis - Flachmarine Ablagerungen: Küste und Delta - Marine Flachwasserkarbonate - Hemipelagische Sedimente - Tiefmarine Ablagerungen Teil III: Stratigraphie - Lithostratigraphie - Sequenzstratigraphie - Chemostratigraphie
