Geospatial data processing with AI tools – an overview
Geodatenverarbeitung mit KI-Werkzeugen – eine Übersicht
The module provides an introduction to geospatial data processing with AI tools. It covers data sources, data preparation, project phases of AI applications (foundation models, machine learning, neural networks) and challenges when working with geospatial data (e.g. 3D data, graphs). Practical exercises deepen the knowledge and enable the use of suitable tools.
Geodata analysis and processing with Python and open-source libraries
Geodatenanalyse und -verarbeitung mit Python und Opensource-Bibliotheken
This module shows how geodata can be processed and analyzed using Python and open source libraries. Content: Reading and writing vector and raster data, reprojection of data, querying and manipulating geodata in a spatial database, accessing and using geospatial web services and visualizing geodata both in a GIS and in the web browser.
Geodata management using PostgreSQL and PostGIS
Geodatenmanagement mit PostgreSQL und PostGIS
The module offers an introduction to the leading open source database system PostgreSQL with the associated spatial extension PostGIS. Content: Geodata modeling, database administration, vector and raster analyses, projections and transformations, triggers and functions.
Independent scientific work in one of the geomatics disciplines; discipline can be chosen
Introduction to general scientific working methods and skills in the core fields of geomatics. It includes a literature study, a review of one of the articles, a presentation and a report about the literature study.
Geometry and Computer Graphics
Geometrie und Computergrafik
Introduction and basics in mathematics of geometric objects in the three-dimensional space (with exercises).Basics, structures and processes in modern computer graphics.Exercises in 2D and 3D computer graphics with software from desktop publishing and computer visualisation.
Geoprocessing with Python: Introduction to scripting language and geodata processing with ArcPy
Geoprozessierung mit Python: Einführung in die Skriptsprache und Geodatenverarbeitung mit ArcPy
The module provides an introduction to the syntax and the most important concepts of Python. This forms the basis for subsequently automating GIS processes in ArcGIS Pro and implementing spatial analyses and dynamic models.
Analysis and discussion of map examples and types
Basic knowledge about spatial information exchange using plans and maps. Acquire knowledge about major design rules for map graphics and production methods. Assessment of existing products with respect to their contents and design quality. Design of graphically proper plans and legends.
Analysis and discussion of map examples and types
Legal aspects of geoinformation by example of the Swiss Transport Network project
Rechtliche Aspekte von Geoinformation am Beispiel des Projekts Verkehrsnetz Schweiz
The aim of the module is to explain the constitutional division of tasks between the Confederation and the cantons in the regulation of geoinformation law. Furthermore, the organizational and legal possibilities of procuring infrastructure data will be dealt with, in particular the data protection restrictions and the legal significance of Geographic Information Systems.
This course offers an opportunity for students to become familiar with current research topics in Cartography. The course is comprised of lectures given by national and international scientists in the field of Cartography, hands-on exercises for digital map processing methods, and projects to work on current research challenges. A particular focus will be feature extraction from historical maps.
