Das Seminar vermittelt eine multiperspektivische Einführung in zentrale Begriffe, Diskurse und Handlungsansätze der Baukultur. Ausgehend von der europäischen Ideengeschichte der Denkmalpflege wird die Entwicklung hin zu einem erweiterten Baukulturverständnis nachgezeichnet, das den Umgang mit bestehenden Bauten, Ensembles und Ortsbildern als kontinuierlichen Transformationsprozess begreift.
Conserving the Recent Past: Post-Modernism & High-Tech (1970–2000)

A systematic examination of building stocks from the 1970s to the 2000s, with a particular focus on Postmodernism and High-Tech. From a heritage conservation perspective, the focus is on preservation, repair, conservation, and inventorying. Theoretical approaches to heritage conservation are combined with practical conservation strategies to meet the complex requirements of these structures.
This module introduces various serial, digital and other innovative methods of industrial manufacturing and applied repair. Excursions to workshops and construction sites with a repair focus are included in the module. Contributions to the history of repair and design theory complement the thematic module.
Development of the Existing Building Stock
Zukunft des Bestands
The course addresses the future handling of building stock, especially younger, unlisted architecture. Using real case studies, a valuation input session and usage scenarios, participants explore sustainable strategies for further development.
This course focuses on recent constructions built using innovative computational design and fabrication technologies, and the challenges associated with their repair, maintenance, and preservation.This course was developed and taught by Laurence Crouzet and Orkun Kasap.

Good inventories are essential for an active participation in the redevelopment or renovation of the existing building stock. The course engages with recently built objects and the younger building stock which for various reasons have not yet been systematically surveyed and inventoried.
