Abstract

The course addresses the future handling of building stock, especially younger, unlisted architecture. Using real case studies, a valuation input session and usage scenarios, participants explore sustainable strategies for further development.

Objective

Participants critically engage with the potential of post-war and recent building stock. The aim is to identify architectural and functional qualities, assess development potential, and formulate reuse strategies based on structured, quantitative and economically grounded reasoning. A key competence developed is the ability to evaluate transformation or replacement options not ideologically, but with regard to long-term viability, value retention, and financial feasibility – using core valuation principles and real-world examples.

Content

The course includes lectures, case studies and a two-part workshop. It begins with an input session on real estate valuation on 2 October 2025, providing practical foundations, calculation methods and case studies. The workshop focuses on economically driven decision-making. Participants develop realistic reuse or transformation scenarios for an example project, grounded in measurable and well-argued data.
