This course covers advanced topics and technologies in computer networks, both theoretically and practically. It is offered each Fall. Repetition for credit is possible with the consent of the instructor.
In this lecture, we discuss current research topics that are relatetd to understanding the problems and shortcomings of today's Internet technology. The lecture covers diverse aspects in traffic characteristics, streaming technologies, and novel network architectures (self-organizing networks, P2P networking). The students will read and understand relevant contributions found in the literature.
This lecture discusses fundamental concepts and technologies in the area of network security. Several case studies illustrate the dark side of the Internet and explain how to protect against such threats. A hands-on computer lab that accompanies the lecture gives a deep dive on firewalls, penetration testing and intrusion detection.
