The lecture "Materials and Manufacturing" provides students with the fundamentals to systematically select materials for applications in mechanical engineering.

This lecture gives an introduction to the fundamentals and process technology of additive manufacturing processes with a focus on metals. The principles and technologies of laser powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition as well as sintering processes will be introduced.

This lecture addresses sustainability in manufacturing, focusing on materials. To determine where high-impact changes can be brought, widely used materials, their production and transformation into a product are analysed in terms of energy use and emissions. It then explores alternative design strategies to reduce material use and innovative processes to lower energy consumption and emissions.
