Abstract

The lecture "Materials and Manufacturing" provides students with the fundamentals to systematically select materials for applications in mechanical engineering.

Objective

- Understanding the different properties (mechanical, thermal, electrical, magnetic, optical) of materials. - Understanding and describing fundamental relationships between the structure of materials and these properties using models. - Knowing and being able to apply basic calculation methods and models for describing material properties. - Being able to select materials systematically based on design criteria. - Understanding manufacturing and environmental aspects and taking them into account when selecting materials.

Content

1. Introduction - Materials in Mechanical Engineering 2. Material Properties - An Overview 3. Material Families and Systematic Material Selection 4. Mechanical Properties 5. Thermal Properties 6.
