Three aspects of Weyls’ mathematical and philosophical ideas are discussed:- The problem of a mathematical analysis of the continuum in relation to philosophical debates about the concept of intuition around 1900.- Weyl`s intuitionist notion of mathematics as an act and its philosophical background in Kant and Fichte.- Science as a symbolic construction and its anthropological implications.

History and Philosophy of Cybernetics

Philosophie und Geschichte der Kybernetik

851-0146-00L 2005S 2 Credits

Cybernetics changed the relationship between technology and philosophy deeply. Philosophy lost its privilege of determining the essence of technology, had to face its own technological preconditions and to deal with an unprecedented technologisation of its epistemological issues. The seminar sketches this rearrangement of disourse by discussing principal cybernetic and philosophical sources.
