Teachers have much in common with researchers. They create hypotheses about what works within their classrooms, test them, and understand the impact on their students. Indeed, many questions teachers face have relevant answers in research. This course aims to support teachers in applying research findings, which requires the ability to understand research and transfer findings to their practice.

Teaching is also a craft. In this lecture, students get to know and, wherever possible, also practice practical aspects of the teaching profession within the framework of relevant theories rom the Learning Sciences.

In this seminar, we introduce some of the major gender-related issues in the context of education and science learning, such as the under-representation of girls and women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Different perspectives, controversies and empirical evidence will be discussed.

Topics in natural Science are frequently tought outside the classroom.Along the River Reuss, students develop outdoor teaching-projects in their subjects and combine them with other subjects.We also give instruction on principles of organisation of outdoor projects and leadership in school: Students are involved in the practical realization of the camp and programme alongside the Reuss.

Literature from the learning sciences is critically discussed with a focus on research methods.At the first meeting, working groups will be assembled and meetings with those will be set up.In the small groups students will write critical essays about the read literature. At the third meeting, we will discuss the essays and develop research questions in group work.
