Abstract

Teachers have much in common with researchers. They create hypotheses about what works within their classrooms, test them, and understand the impact on their students. Indeed, many questions teachers face have relevant answers in research. This course aims to support teachers in applying research findings, which requires the ability to understand research and transfer findings to their practice.

Objective

- Find, read, and interpret literature in the educational sciences - Explain research methods used in the empirical educational sciences - Critically examine information from scientific journals and media - Apply pedagogically relevant findings from the empirical educational sciences to their own teaching

Content

We will discuss research methods in educational sciences. In small groups, students will read exemplar articles and critically discuss their rigor and generalizability. They will also discuss questions they might have for research and transfer research findings to their own classrooms.
