E in numerische Feldberechnungsverfahren
An overview over the most prominent methods for the simulation of electromagnetic fields is given This includes domain methods such as finite differences and finite elements, method of moments, and boundary methods. Both time domain and frequency domain techniques are considered.
First half of the semester: Introduction to the main methods of numerical optimization with focus on stochastic methods such as genetic algorithms, evolutionary strategies, etc.Second half of the semester: Each participant implements a selected optimizer and applies it on a problem of practical interest.
This module consists of (a) an introduction to fundamental equations of electromagnetics, mechanics and heat transfer, (b) a detailed overview of numerical methods for field simulations, and (c) practical examples solved in form of small projects.
Discussion of fundamentals of electromagnetics and various applications (wave propagation, scattering, antennas, waveguides, bandgap materials, etc.). Numerical methods suited for the analysis of electromagnetic fields and for the optimal design of electromagnetic structures.
