The course deals with phenomena, terms and social contexts of designing nature since the 19th century, in order to derive a basis for ways of thinking and action for the present.

Landscape architecture connects different scientific disciplines, epistemological standpoints and different practices. This lecture series discusses relevant theories and concepts of landscape in their respective contexts of thought as well as by means of case studies and exemplary projects.

The Landscape Architecture I and II lecture series looks at the design of nature from the first cultural landscapes to today's complex cultural landscape formations. The lecture series not only analyzes the results of anthropogenic nature design, but also discusses its various causes, contexts and consequences.

Since the turn of the millennium, topics and contexts such as climate change, migration, digitalization, etc. have shaped humans' relation to nature. The lecture series gives an introduction to key topics in the field of contemporary landscape architecture, as well as their transdisciplinary approaches.
