Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:48:40
Abstract
The Landscape Architecture I and II lecture series looks at the design of nature from the first cultural landscapes to today's complex cultural landscape structures. The fall semester opens up the history and theory of garden design and landscape architecture from the early advanced civilizations through to the natural garden movement.
Objective
Students acquire an overview of the history of landscape architecture as well as an insight into the changing concepts and ways of thinking about designing nature. They become familiar with historical developments and their actuality and learn "from history". Design contexts are taught using examples. Students develop a basis for ways of thinking and action for current landscape architectural challenges.

The lectures in the fall semester provide an overview of the cultural history of nature, the landscape and the garden from its origins to the present day. An in-depth understanding of the transformation as well as the design strategies and characteristics of the most important epochs and their current relevance will be discussed.
