Cultivation of human and animal cells, expression of various genes in animal cell lines, investigation of regulated gene expression, analysis of the cell cycle in cell lines used for production (under various culture conditions), reactor techniques and production of pharmaceutical proteins on an industrial scale, computer simulation for the analysis of biological and industrial processes.

Mammalian cells will be transfected and transduced with viral vectors for production of biopharmaceuticals, for generation of artificial microtissues, as vectors in gene/cell therapy studies, for drug discovery as well as for construction of synthetic biologic gene networks. A wide array of analytical techniques, lectures and excursions to biotech companies will complement the practical part.
