As a separate format of MAS GTA, the project semester is an opportunity to work on an issue in the seminar and to develop a joint product, based on the knowledge gained. Focus and final product of the project semester will be communicated in early 2026.

The question of cause and effect of architecture is an old one. Can a building not only reflect, but promote or even spark societal change? Does architecture have transformative agency? The seminar is organized transhistorically and seeks to illuminate various forms of architectural mediality.

"Architecture and the City V" serves as the container to register in the transcript the two electives at 2 credit points each which are required from MAS gta students for their degree. Students should register both for this course and for the electives.

Academic consultations, possibly with individually agreed educational goals (depending on a student’s biography and envisaged career). In this mo-dule period, students will also put the intermediate results of their research up for discussion in public workshop debates.Assessment of academic achievement in the form of a public presentation.

Independent, written, scientific study as part of a research and/or exhibition project conducted by the MAS GTA.

This one-semester module is dedicated to identifying the topic for the Master's thesis and developing the research plan. The Master's thesis itself is written in the following spring semester.

Credited master thesis as assessment of students’ competence in dealing with a chosen research subject (90,000-120,000 characters).

The course is an introduction to the different forms of humanistic working and covers the methodological basics of the subject. It trains the ability to address a topic through written discussions in writing workshops.

Through hands-on teaching, the methods workshops introduce students to the various approaches to academic writing in the humanities and convey the methodological foundations of architectural history. Lecturers and students discuss and work on research papers and master's theses as well as the group’s research project.
