The course gives an introduction to the development and anatomical structure of nervous systems. Furthermore, it discusses the basics of cellular neurophysiology and neuropharmacology. Finally, the nervous system is described on a system level with a particular emphasis on the visual system.

Introduction to experimental methods in neuroscience with examples from neuronal information processing, genexpression and genregulation in neural systems,and the neuro psycho pharmacology of behavior.

This course complements the course “Neural computation”. It focuses on the computations performed by neural populations to achieve specific motor and cognitive tasks.
