Approximately 50% of fungal species derive their nutrition as parasites or as mutualists from plants or animals. This lecture focusses on structural and functional peculiarities of a range of antagonistic and mutualistic fungal symbioses (plant-, insect- or nematode pathogens, endosymbioses of insects, mycorrhizae, Geosiphon, lichens) and on their ecological significance.
