This block course teaches a wide selection of practical immunological techniques and offers advanced lectures in selected topics in immunology.

Introduction into structural and functional aspects of the immune system.Basic knowledge of the mechanisms and the regulation of an immune response.

The aim of lecture is to understand:> how immune system recognizes different pathogens and how it successfully selects appropriate defense stratgey> why defense mechanism against microorganism often yields into symptoms of disease (fever, inflammation, autoimmunity)> how the cells of the immune system migrate into different tissues> immune system in intestine and anti tumor response

Literature seminar for students at the masters level and PhD students. Introduction to the current research topics in infectious diseases; Introduction to key pathogens which are studied as model organisms in this field; Overview over key research groups in the field of infectious diseases in Zürich.
