The course will focus on a special class of Banach spaces -- known as Banach lattices -- which are closed under absolute value. We will then discuss how the theory can be applied to solve problems in phase retrieval and harmonic analysis.
In this class, we will explore the mathematical theory of fluid dynamics. We will cover classical and modern techniques related to nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs), including the Euler equations (nonlinear hyperbolic PDEs) and the Navier-Stokes equations (nonlinear parabolic PDEs).
In many experiments, detectors are able to measure the magnitude of a signal but not the phase. It is therefore important to know whether one can recover the lost phase information, given a set of physical constraints on the signal. Although such problems have a long history, it was only recently proven that phase retrieval can be done stably. This seminar will give an introduction to this field.
