This is an advanced PhD-level seminar in Energy and Environmental Economics. The focus is on empirical methods and econometric analysis. The main topics are (1) the application of discrete choice models in environmental economics, (2) econometric models based on setting up “quasi experiments,” and (3) the econometric analysis of productive efficiency and the regulation of energy industries.

In this seminar, selected papers are presented and discussed in the area of energy economics and industrial economics. In particular, empirical studies in energy demand and efficiency of public enterprises are presented.
This course is an introduction to statistical methods and concepts applied to business and economics data. The topics include probability distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance and multiple regression. The course is organized in weekly 2-hour lectures (total of 28 hours) with a final comprehensive exam. Homework assignments will be given every other week.
