Abstract
This is an advanced PhD-level seminar in Energy and Environmental Economics. The focus is on empirical methods and econometric analysis. The main topics are (1) the application of discrete choice models in environmental economics, (2) econometric models based on setting up “quasi experiments,” and (3) the econometric analysis of productive efficiency and the regulation of energy industries.
Objective
The main objective of the seminar is that students will learn about the application of econometric techniques and other empirical methods in scientific research in the field of economic valuation of environmental goods as well as productive efficiency analysis. Through discussion and critical review of the existing literature students will also get a sense of how critical thinking can be used to assess empirical research in Energy and Environmental Economics. In addition, the seminar includes certain hours of lectures during which, the instructors will present the state-of-the-art of the methodologies used for empirical research in the covered topics together with relevant examples. This doctoral seminar is also intended to familiarize doctoral students with the software to initiate their own research.
