Many processes occur, when rocks get into contact with ground water. Knowledge of groundwater chemical composition and quality contributes to solving many problems in hydrogeology, e.g. determining recharge areas, groundwater dating, sustainable drinking water supply, corrosion/alteration of man-made materials, waste disposal, soil cultivation.
The course covers hydrogeological investigation methods in unconsolidated sediments (theory only) and fractured rock. Application in hard/fractured rock. Focus on aquitard well tests using a double packer. Estimation of natural hydraulic heads. The students have to sample, display, evaluate and assess own data and write a report. --10-19 June, 11-18 June @Mels

The course aims to describe the relevant processes that control the terrestrial water cycle. Energy and mass exchange, mixing and transport processes are described and the coupling of the hydrosphere with the atmosphere and the solid Earth are discussed.
