Basic course in electrical engineering with the following topics: Concepts of voltage and currents; Analyses of dc and ac networks; Series and parallel resistive circuits, circuits including capacitors and inductors; Kirchhoff's laws and other network theorems; Transient responses; Basics of electrical and magnetic fields;
"Nonlinear Optics" deals with the interaction of light with matter. I.e. the response of insulators, metals, semiconductors or metamaterials to light and the mathematical framework (classical and quantum mechanical) to describe the phenomena.
This lecture deals with the fundamentals of optical and wireless communications. The lecture thereby follows the path of a signal from the transmitter, through the channel to the receiver. We will cover both the physics of the hardware as well as the algorithm and digital signal processing steps. Fundamental communications theoretical aspects will be covered.
This lecture covers both - the fundamentals of "Optics" such as e.g. "ray optics", "coherence", the "Planck law", the "reciprocity theorem" or the "Einstein relations" but also the fundamentals of "Photonics" on the generation (the laser), processing, transmission and detection of photons.

Discussion of fundamentals of electromagnetics and various applications (wave propagation, scattering, antennas, waveguides, bandgap materials, etc.). Numerical methods suited for the analysis of electromagnetic fields and for the optimal design of electromagnetic structures.
Selected topics of the current research activities of the IFH and closely related institutions are discussed.
The course has the following main goals: (a) to give a comprehensive overview of challenges on communication equipment imposed by space flight missions, (b) to present the theoretical fundamentals and existing practical solutions of communication technology for space missions, and (c) to review existing and future communication technologies for inter-satellite links, inter-spacecraft links, as wel
World views guide our thoughts and our actions even though we may not be aware of it. By means of lectures, discussions and contributions of participants, we examine elements of world views regarding the underlying philosophical concepts and their relations to the sciences, philosophy and religion.
