The course addresses undergraduate and graduate students interested in getting introduced into the basic aspects of surface properties, surface modification techniques and specific characterization methods that are relevant for the field of biomaterials, tissue engineering, biosensors and drug delivery carrier systems. Course covers also 3-times 2 h lab demonstrations.

The program includes talks by invited speakers (from ETHZ and other research institutions, national/international) that are leaders in their fields as well as presentations by postdoctoral fellows and PhD students. Speakers are asked to provide an overview of the field to allow participants to profit by getting introduced into important aspects of biomaterials research and tissue engineering.
