Abstract

The seminar has a trans-disciplinary approach covering talks that span from materials science and chemistry to biology and medicine. The program includes talks by invited speakers (both national & international) that are leaders in their fields. In addition 1 or 2 papers by the invited speaker will be selected and discussed by the students in the course prior to the seminar.

Objective

The goal of this course is to introduce students to the wider field of biomaterials as well as literature searches, paper reviews and discussion groups.

Content

The seminar has a trans-disciplinary approach covering talks that span from materials science and chemistry to biology and medicine. The program includes talks by invited speakers (from both ETHZ and other research institutions, national/international) that are leaders in their fields. Invited speakers are asked to provide an introductory overview of the field to allow participants to follow and profit by getting introduced into important aspects of biomaterials research and tissue engineering. The master students attending this seminar will meet before each talk to discuss a few publications of the speaker in the field covered in the talk in order to better profit from the seminar. Additionally, after the seminar, the speakers will be asked to spend half an hour with the students only, providing an additional opportunity to ask questions, discuss and make personal contacts.
