The studio will focus on developing new readings of the site, which we will approach through four abstract worlds: the house, the field, the tower and the mount, with the guidance of four experts. We will build imaginaries and mythologies around these, which will then be translated into physical artefacts and iconographies.

We need Informal Learning Space, why? The studio, supported by ETH Innovedum, is jointly run by the Chair of Architectural Behaviorology, the "Newrope" Chair and the Chair of Cognitive Science. It develops from research and 1:1 mock-ups of HS21 towards realizations of interventions in FS22. Students tackle 3 environments at ETH: D-ARCH studios space ONA, Library InfoCenter, and D-USYS classroom.

How can we look for ways in which all parties involved can benefit from the proposed transformation of the port of the greek city Piraeus? You are invited to join us to develop concrete interventions that bring people with conflicting views and interests into dialogue to help create the conditions for co-creation and –habitation in the heart of Newrope.
At first sight, Offenbach might seem like a rather small and unimportant city. Yet Offenbach is a city of extremes: Highest debt per capita in Germany, highest unemployment rate in the state of Hessen, most international and culturally diverse city in the country, a poor city. We are interested in these edge conditions where things collide, energy is unleashed, and radical change can happen.
The studio is evolving around the Pallati I Brigadave in Tirana. We invite you to join us to develop a rich variety of speculative ideas and concrete interventions at different scales. We aim at bringing people with very different or even conflicting views into dialogue in order to help create the conditions for co-creation and –habitation in and around the Palace of Brigades.
Architecture is an act of world-building. This semester, we will become prophets of new worlds yet to come. We will learn from existing world-building practices, from science-fiction literature to architecture and game design, that is, radical imagination practices that venture into the utopian. From our newly created perspective, we will design alternative futures for the RIA Halle in Oerlikon.
What does it mean to practice architecture today?During the last decade we have seen many practices take shape which go beyond architecture as the design of buildings. The Newrope chair has explored process oriented methods, centered around the idea of "Design in Dialogue" – to design not only spatial proposals with the architect’s conventional tools, but to equally care for the way we develop

Densification often feels like a threat: Buildings get demolished and residents displaced, for more square meters, but not always more or a larger diversity of inhabitants. In this semester we continue working on the question how densification could be turned into an asset to tackle and renegotiate pressing socio-environmental conditions and needs without losing existing qualities of urban life.
The studio combines a performative, sensorial exploration of this multifaceted public space with a more scientific approach and analytical monitoring techniques, and digital 3D mapping tools. We will work closely together with specialists from a range of artistic and academic disciplines, including (physical) theater, cognitive sciences, ecology, visual media and (scan) technology.
The ONA building was not built to foster human life and interaction. As a welding factory, it was meant for machines. Situated on the border between Oerlikon and Seebach, it was part of an industrial zone where a.o. weapons were produced. In recent decades the area was transformed into a primarily residential neighbourhood, and the ONA building was converted into a mixed-use office building.
We will start from the cliché by visiting picture-perfect villages that symbolize the stereotypical, archaic version of Switzerland: no signs of urbanisation, actively preserved and staged as a scenography of the rural. We will follow these dreams, trace them in history and popular culture, try to understand them. We want to strip them of their superficiality and distil the underlying desires.
