Students deepen their basic understanding of systematics and acquire exemplary knowledge of selected organism groups using online tutorials. They then carry out their own determinations on excursions to different habitats and apply methods of biodiversity detection. In workshops, the collected data are analyzed and discussed with a view to various ecological questions.

In the internship outside of ETH and its research institutes, the students learn how to address environmental issues professionally through their own practical work and by applying the knowledge they have acquired. They will analyse complex environmental problems on scientific, technical and social levels and develop solutions in conjunction with social actors.

In the case study, we analyse a different real-world topic from the field of sustainable development each year, identify key challenges, and develop solutions together with stakeholders.
